According to Iraq's military, an Iraqi army brigadier general and another soldier were killed by a roadside bomb near Kirkuk during a search of an Islamic State hideout. Two other personnel were wounded in the blast.

The US Embassy in Baghdad has issued a security alert and STEP alert to Americans in Iraq. The alert was reportedly issued around the same time as similar security alerts sent by the US Embassies in Oman and Israel.

According to Sabereen, ISIS militants attacked an electricity tower in Baiji-Haditha, located between Anbar and Salah al-Din provinces. Clashes subsequently erupted between Iraqi security forces and the militants.

An Iraqi security source told CNN on Saturday (local time) that a "huge explosion" took place at a military base belonging to Iraq's Iranian-backed Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) in Babylon Governorate south of Baghdad.

The explosions took place at an ammunition depot at a PMF military base, the source said, but didn't provide further details or elaborate on a cause.
