Protests and arrests in Moscow and other Russian cities

Unrest and mass arrests occurred in Moscow and several other Russian cities as the country's second largest political party staged protests against the government. In central Moscow, over 2,000 people marched from Krasnopresnenskaya Zastava Square toward the Russian White House chanting slogans including "Down with the Tsar!" and "We want freedom!".

According to reports, the demonstration had been authorized under the false pretense of commemorating those killed in the 1993 constitutional crisis. Security forces cracked down on the march, resulting in approximately 100 arrests.
