According to reports, Russian authorities spent months planning to kill chess player and dissident leader Garry Kasparov in the United States. US authorities informed the founder of the Free Russia Forum that he was the target of a Kremlin assassination plot, leading to special protection being assigned to him.

Advanced plans were also reportedly in place to assassinate Ilya Ponomarev, a former Russian lawmaker who voted against the annexation of Crimea. An operative recruited by Moscow allegedly filmed locations associated with one of the targets in the US following coded instructions.

According to a Pentagon breakdown given to Congress, the Iran war has cost $43.6 billion through September 3rd, with munitions accounting for $28.1 billion of that total. The Air Force spent $6.6 billion, the Navy $2.2 billion deploying carriers and warships, and the Army $1.6 billion, while more than 50,000 troops are assigned to the mission.

The figure excludes $1.5 billion in additional requested costs and repair expenses for damaged facilities, such as the Navy's base in Manama, Bahrain, which could add tens of billions more. Earlier estimates include the Congressional Budget Office putting the cost at $38 billion through August 1st and Secretary of War Pete Hegseth testifying in July that it had reached $37.5 billion.

Members of a Russian intelligence services network have been charged with conspiring to finance terrorism and commit murder for hire in the United States, according to the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York.

Lockheed Martin has unveiled an uncrewed version of the UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter, known as the S-70UAS U-Hawk, which the company says is the world’s first fully autonomous Black Hawk platform. The development, announced on 13 October, is a major step in transforming a proven military airframe into an uncrewed multi-mission system, according to the company.

Developed by Sikorsky, a Lockheed Martin company, the U-Hawk was converted from a UH-60L Black Hawk in under a year. Engineers removed the cockpit and crew stations, installing a new fly-by-wire control system integrated with Sikorsky’s MATRIX autonomy technology. The result, Lockheed Martin stated, is a platform with 25 percent more cargo capacity than the standard crewed helicopter.
