Less than a year after the coup in Niger that led to the withdrawal of French forces from Niamey, Russian forces have announced their official arrival in the capital.

Around a hundred "instructors" are said to have arrived in the capital this evening to train and assist local forces.

Note that the Russian presence in the country has been known for several months now.
